Finished 2/25/2026! This was a BEAST. (Just for my own reference, I used a no-brand black, mid-grey, and white that I already had, and bought DMC 03 Medium Tin for the light grey, and DMC 3799 Very Dark Pewter Grey for the dark grey that makes up most of the bracelet. And I don’t know if this information would help anyone else, but I counted how many knots there are of each color so I could estimate how much thread I needed. Color A = 526 knots, Color B = 96 knots, Color C = 296 knots, Color D = 103 knots, Color E = 329 knots, for a total of 1350 knots. I left myself 6in to make a tie that ended up being roughly 3.5in. The bracelet itself ended up being about 5in. I had some wiggle room with the base strings once I finished, which makes me think I originally made my base strings somewhere around 20in.) I chose to do a clean back, so I had to make a massive chart of how I would route all my strings, which I lost at one point so I had to do again. But I did it! I finished it! And I’m so proud of myself! I was looking forward to making those twisted ties all month! Some of the knots are bigger than others, making the rows wonky, but I don’t mind- I think it makes it look like the painting “A Numbered Universe” by Bettina Brendel. It also makes me think of Beryl Korot’s work; I had to do a report on her for an art class in high school and never forgot her. Working on this had me geeking out over the intersection of textile work, binary code, “women’s work,” and different ways of encoding information. I love this bracelet so much. I’m absolutely overjoyed to be done with it, and I immediately want to make another. I have new techniques and color schemes I’d like to try!
