IT by Stephen King. Read it cover to cover at least three times over the years (the first time, I was probably way too young), and never failed to pick up on details I'd missed on previous reads that added to the tapestry of the story and the overarching King universe.STARSHIP TROOPERS by Robert A. Heinlein. No finer example of the importance of never judging a book by its movie. THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO by Alexandre Dumas. JOHN BROWN, ABOLITIONIST by David S. Reynolds. While I don't agree with *every*thing he did, I maintain the hot take that he was one of the most perceptive men of his time, and that history never gave him a fair shake. Haven't read them all yet, but I'm a pretty big fan of the OG Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and can't go wrong with Edgar Allan Poe (LOVE "The Cask of Amontillado"; I can nearly recite it verbatim). |
