@blackcat79 I'm not so sure about that. One of the lovely bits of trivia I remember hearing while getting debriefed after SERE training dealt with sleep deprivation. While as far as I know, there aren't any recorded instances of human fatalities, the anecdote we got involved experiments on a monkey of some description, who lasted 17 days before keeling over (seems the part of the brain that helps regulate body temperature blew its gasket). Those who wear the lab coats and hold the clipboards wager that's probably about as well as we'd fare under the same conditions. (Vs. the general guidelines of 3s: Three minutes without air, three days without water, and three weeks without food.) |

So long as everyone would be in the same boat, I'd have to go with us at least still being able to see. As a species, we're far more dependent on the ability for survival, and we wouldn't be quite as much a liability to the rest of the tribe. Besides, if there simply aren't any sounds at all any longer for ANYone, hearing wouldn't mean much. Maybe it's my own lack of imagination, but I can't conceive of a world in which there was nothing to see, or humanity somehow coming to terms with that. Not saying it wouldn't have ANY survival benefits, particularly if this mostly harmless planet of ours were ever invaded by the hideous Bugblatter Beasts of Traal (mind-bogglingly stupid creatures: they assume that if you can't see them, then they can't see you). |
