Once upon a time, the undisputed greatest flavor of Doritos was "Taco." How much, exactly, did they taste like tacos? Zero: they tasted zero like actual tacos. Instead, they tasted *better.* Somehow, the wizards at Doritos had perfected the perfect food. But then one day, without warning nor explanation, Taco Doritos simply entered the Bermuda Triangle of junk food and never reemerged. For a while, I was holding out hope that they were going to be a seasonal offering, like Mallomars or Frankenberry, but eventually had to resign myself to the grim realization that they weren't coming back. You can only imagine my excitement at seeing them once again on the shelves some years ago, and they even went so far as to use the classic retro bag design. However, they didn't taste anywhere close to their original glory. Poorer quality ingredients and fried up in more politically-correct oils, I suppose. |

As much as I missed my beloved Taco Doritos, I never shed actual tears at their disappearance. One of the first deaths in my life that I genuinely mourned was the kindly woman who ran a neighborhood pizza joint and made the best panzerotto (deep fried calzone) I'd ever tasted. The realization I was never having one again nearly had me requiring an emergency IV of saline. 😭

I miss just running around outside and building little stick forts with my neighbors, not having to deal with or worry about the crushing weight of all the responsibilities I’ve placed upon myself
