Tidying up a bit, and came upon a complete set of Scrabble tiles fashioned out of MRE chewing gum ("Meals Ready to Eat," although there are a number of witty alternative meanings of the acronym which we probably shouldn't get into here). A little souvenir from deployment, one of those projects to save a trooper from ennui. After coat of desert tan spray paint and a quick dip in polyurethane to make them sweat-proof, they're holding up scarily well all these years later. |

@LoveCraft Sounds like the sort of thing that might've been the origin of supernatural urban legend in the pre-internet days. The story went that the ghost of a young boy in black funeral attire could be glimpsed in the background of a moment in the popular movie THREE MEN & A BABY. Even skeptics had to admit there was *some*thing there, and it was creepy. Finally, many years later, it's now common knowledge that it was nothing more than a carelessly placed cardboard cutout of one of the tritagonists in a tuxedo (in the movie, he was an endlessly self-promoting actor of some description and simply had that sort of memorabilia cluttering up the apartment). |
