Describe the story behind the name of your pet(s) (past or present) (:I'll go first - I recently rescued my first cat (with my partner). He is a black domestic shorthair with the brightest green eyes. We had arranged with the shelter to meet with a few of their cats (but he was our #1), so we were going back and forth for a few days before meeting them all. We were initially thinking of character names like toothless or jiji (Kiki's delivery service), or something in japanese since we both enjoy anime. Then I said my dream cat would just be a love bug - which finally led us the name Bug! And it suits him perfectly. He can be a stink bug or assassin bug at times so it works in many ways lol. It's been nearly 4 months with our Bug Boy and we've been enjoying his addition to our little family more every day. Let me know your stories, I'm looking forward to any responses (: |

The old fella in the avatar was "Culree." He had a tail that formed a perfect loop, so "curly" seemed a fitting name for him. The Thai language has both L and R sounds, but in many instances, Thai folks have a tendency to swap one out for the other depending on the situation and how formal they wish to sound. For instance, "arrai?" ("what?") with a slightly rolled R is generally considered the more proper pronunciation, with "allay?" coming across as lazier. When it comes to pronouncing foreign words, all bets tend to be off. Knowing this in advance, swapping out the placement of those two consonants never failed to make me smile whenever someone would ask for my companion's name, and I would tell them "Culree." When they'd without fail respond "Curlee...?", I'd assure them they nailed it. 👍 |

I have two adorable kitties, both about 4 years old and are siblings. Their names are Phoebe and Cosmo, which came from their entire litter being named after astrological/space things. Cosmo is fairly obvious, but Phoebe is actually one of Saturn’s moons. Other names from their litter were titan, nova, etc

We have three pets: Norman, Marty, and Dewey.Norman came with his name, and we thought it would be funny since he has a human name, so we just kept it. We were planning to name Marty Andy, after a former cat, and my mom did not want us kids to fight over his name 😭 😂 Recently, my sister had been talking about how in the future she wanted to name a cat Marty. So me and my sister pitched the idea to my mom, and she agreed. Later my sister admitted it was because it was the name of Sophie's cat from the Keeper of the Lost Cities. 😭 Dewey has the most interesting story behind his name. He is a yellow tabby cat, and recently as a family we had been listening to audio books about Dewey the Library Cat, who was also a yellow tabby cat. Ultimately, that Dewey is named after the Dewey Decimal system, so technically our cat is also named after the Dewey Decimal system, just in a more round-about way. 🙃 |

We found our cat, Kitty, as a lost stray mewing for food. We just started calling her "Kitty" before we had a name for her, but the name stuck.

I found my cat as a stray. She had gotten herself between our chainlink fence and our neighbors plastic one and couldn't figure out how to get out. I climbed on top of our fence and kept calling "Kitty" at her because she kind of responded to that. Even after I got her out from between the fences, she stuck around. We adopted her and named her Kitty.

I have a Siberian husky and we named him Merlin after the wizard from Kind Arthur and the legend of the sword/ knights of the round table( because we love the medieval lore and Merlin in the story has bright blue eyes like my dog🤭), and after a dog named Merlin from a movie called the Labyrinth

I had an orange teddy bear hamster that I kind of impulsively got (Luckily my sister had rats, so I was not new to having rodents). What really sealed the deal at the pet store was his name. Since he was orange, he looked like a Cheeto. So Cheeto came home with me.I had Cheeto for almost four years, and I miss him everyday. He was such a weird little guy that I loved. |

My cat is named Jack Sparrow. We called him that because when he was a kitten he had some sort of eye problem and he just looked like some sort of pirate.

So my dogs name is Domino and we got her around 2 yrs ago and when my brother and I where deciding names he said he wanted her to be named after a marvel character. I was like okay who? Then his friend said how about domino since she’s black and white. And I loved it cause I didn’t want to name her Oreo or cookie cause of her colour (let’s be honest there’s lots of dogs named that) and I wanted something a little different.

My sister and I have wanted a cat named Benek since childhood. When we managed to persuade our mom, a friend of hers had a cat that was born at his house. He gave it to us, but the kitten turned out to be a girl, so we gave it the female version, and now it's Benia.
