Basically what the title is. In my 6 years of making friendship bracets I've never known how to keep them in place. At the beginning i simply pinned them to my jeans with a safety pin but it damaged them. I've also tried doing it on clipboard, but i had to use it in curved up position so it stayed in place. Masking tape works BUT the ammount of it to hold the bracelet is enormous. Nowadays I use a strange construction(binder clip held in place by lots of tape), but it also doesn't hold well in place.
As you can guess I'm getting desperate with options and going to doing alphas on my knee is impossible.

You mentioned a using a clipboard previously, and honestly that is your best bet. You should get one with a flat clip (not one with a curved clip). The bottom of the clip should be flush with the board. This holds your bracelet much better than one of those boards that has a clip that curves up in the middle. check to make sure the clip is open in the back, so you can pull your bracelet through the back as it gets longer so you can continue to knot close to the clip. This helps keep the knots straight and tight for a nicer finished look. The farther away you are knotting from the point your bracelet is secured at, the greater chance it will come out misshapen, or loose, or wavy. If you are making alphas, you can get binder clips and clip those to the top of the board to clip in new leading strigs and such, tape also works for this, but using a clipboard as a base is really versatile, as you can move it around, and it's not stationed to a table or desk. I hope this helps!

@idk_man- thank you for your help^^! I'll try to find a clipboard like that because my previous one did not hold anything at all. My problem with it was not even that, but the fact that it did couldn't stay on my table in place even if I put part of it unde rmy laptop.
