hi! i know that for normal patterns, you should cut the strings the same size as your wingspan, but what about alpha patterns? how do i know at what height i need to cut the string? also, if anyone has any other ways of determining where to cut the strings on a normal pattern, please share them with me!! <3

For alphas you have base strings (the ones where you make the knots onto) these need to be long enough to go arround your wrist + ties since you aren’t going to make any knots with them. For the leading strings (the ones you make the knots with) it doesn’t really matter how long you cut them because if you run out you can always replace them (:

For alphas, if you’ve ever made one before, use it as a guide for how long to cut your base strings. For example, if you’ve made a 40 row alpha, make your base strings double the length of the knotted part of the bracelet for an 80 row alpha (and double that if you’re making a loop). As for leading strings, you can add more if you run out, so I like to use my scraps. If I don’t have any scraps for a specific color, then I just knot with the bobbin so that I don’t have to cut strings.

Oh and also make sure to cut a few inches extra in order to make the ties

For normal patterns, it depends on the thickness and how long you want it to be. Like the starburst pattern I made but you can always attach a new string 😊 😊

It depends on if your making a alpha or a normal. For a normal I would make it arms span, and for alpha I would make it a little bit longer than how long you thing the patterns going to be
