I cooked it 150c for 1 hour. I think that's around 300f

@Stella_Leo At what temperature and how long did you cooking the baking soda? It would be nice to know for future reference. Baking soda is easier to find than soda ash. 🙂

@crafter83 i made my own soda ash by cooking baking soda and it worked perfectly fine.

@crafter83 Yes. I would follow the kit's directions in regards of how to use that specific dye. 👍

But hopefully my tutorial still offers a couple helpful tips in combining colors and using ugly thread. 😊

I got some tie dye kits that were on sale for like $3 each( only had 3-4 colors though). Surprisingly neither had soda ash. You think I should try to diy it and use that to be safe?

I’m saying you can make soda ash from baking soda. You cook the soda( forget exact time) like at 300 degrees for a hour.

@AwesomeGrl When you rinse your thread in the cold running water, a little dye will come out. But that dye is excess dye that did not get absorbed in the thread. So don't worry, the majority of the dye will still stick to your thread. The soda ash helps the thread absorb and keep the dye in. 😉
