@kate2327 as with any alpha pattern, since you don't actually make knots with the base strings, you usually just add the length you want your finished peice to be plus the length of the ties, or enough to comfortably hold onto, maybe 18-24 inches each. Leftover scrap threads or # 3 crochet thread works great for base strings. 😊 The main background string (black) will use a lot, so I always knot with the whole skein and cut it when I'm finished, but sometimes I still have to add in more.
