GiuseppeK: @Shibara If you still have enough length to continue, I wouldn't scrap it outright just yet. I'd tie off the entire bundle into one thick knot right at the point you called it quits, and then treat those remaining threads as a start over. The final product won't be a presentable bracelet, but it'll give us a chance to practice until we get it right without any pressure. 👍

Just for consideration (no self-promotion intended), I just finished #119128, and the product you can see in the photo I submitted is 7 inches, not including loop and ties. Keep in mind that what we're seeing is also an abbreviated version of the pattern: shortened it a bit from 68 rows to about 50.

I didn’t know that feeding the string through the knots was the clean back technique. I may just need to work more with them. I will definitely look into MashaKnots video on it!

GiuseppeK: @idk_man- Now, this is potentially a radical thought (I've never seen anyone else around these parts discussing it), but I've learned that employing the "clean back" technique (Masha has videos if you have no idea what I'm babbling about) can often work too well--the side intended to be back turns out looking sharper and more presentable than what was intended to be the display side. Finally, I decided to just embrace it--no self-promotion intended, but compare and contrast the photos I submitted for #192651 Vs. #165977 for the results (the latter being the "backside" presented for display).

GiuseppeK: @idk_man- I myself don't believe I've quite gotten the whole alpha thing myself dialed in 100% (in my defense, it is all Greek to me). Much as I do like the notion of the "clean back" technique, I've found there are some instances when I can simply tuck the finished color (for the row) strand back and behind without bothering to feed it through the next, and even my critical eye wouldn't be able to detect anything wonky when the leading string comes back into play. It's probably ideologically impure, but if it works, it works.

GiuseppeK: @idk_man- Usually it's just a matter of practice, and learning how the knots want to behave (and figuring out what we can do about it). In some instances, it might be a matter of the kind of thread we're using--not all strands are equal.

idk_man-: Hey everyone, I finished my first alpha, and have a question. I know that when you change colors, you do half a f or b knot and put that leading string up, and your previous leading string goes across and under the new one. And you finish the second part of your knot over and bring it under. I’m finding when I do this, those knots end up bigger, and end up making the bracelet rows wonky. I have tried pulling the previous leading stings from behind to make sure it’s tight, but it still happened. Is this normal? Or am I doing something wrong?

When I finally got inspired to set up my mobile lemonade stand at the swap meet, I'd been giving fistfuls to a cafė owner to put by the cash register to elicit donations to the local children's hospital. I set the base prices based on what most people were willing to donate.
