You need to consider that string A makes a knot of its own colour in 100% of the rows. That's why it needs to be that long.

@halokiwi i have a question concerning your calculations. Is the length of string A 145cm for one string or 145 and folded in half ? I taught that 145 cm for one string is really a lot.

I wrote a tutorial on calculating string length. According to the formula I developed, you need the following length:

A=145cm
C and J=122.5cm
B and I=100cm
D and H=76.25cm
E and G=57.5cm
F=50cm

I hope I did not miscount/made a mistake calculating
