@spookier I use DMC Tapestry Wool (aka DMC Laine Colbert). If you want to try needlepoint, the most important thing is the right canvas, it has to be specifically for needlepoint (looks like square holes on a thin grid). I use the 10 count doubleweave Penelope canvas, but now I switched to the plastic canvas, also 10 count. I actually did this pattern to test it out and I really like it. If you happen to need any other advice, feel free to contact me in DMs, I'll be glad to help!

@itarosky oh that's so clever! i always forget the difference between needlepoint and cross stitch, that makes sense :^) i've got to get some thicker thread so i can try it out! what type do you recommend?

@spookier thank you so much! ^-^ I decided to make this border because I wanted it to be a mug coaster and the pattern was a bit small for that. Btw, it's technically not cross stitch but the technique called needlepoint: each pixel is one single diagonal ╱ rather than a cross ╳, and since the thread is pretty thick, the coverage doesn't get compromised.
