Hi everyone! ๐ณ๏ธโ๐๐๐ณ๏ธโ๐
I've been making bracelets for about 3.5 years now, and I have no plans of stopping anytime soon. I honestly love knotting so much, it's my favourite way to de-stress and relax, and as a bonus I get to create little works of art ๐ I'm not a very creative person in general, so I'm honestly amazed at everyone who keeps creating and releasing such wonderful patterns. I'm so grateful to have BraceletBook as a resource, so I can keep knotting, even if I can't come up with patterns myself ๐ โค๏ธ
Since I've uploaded 100+ photos at this point, there are some questions I get relatively frequently, so I thought I'd answer some here (if you have any other questions, you are always welcome to message me ofc!)
- The clasps I use for a lot of my bracelets are called "slide lock clasps" and are pretty common in various hobby and jewelry making shops. They are also availabe a lot of places online for cheap (etsy, amazon etc). If you do buy some cheap ones online, I recommend giving them a coat of clear nail polish/any similar product, to protect the coating and keep them shiny for longer, as well as to protect the skin from possible allergy inducing metals (same goes for pretty much any cheap jewlery tbh) ๐
- To attach the strings to the clasp, I put two strings through one hole (so there are 4 strings in total for each hole). This is easiest with patterns that begin in pairs of the same colour (for normals, it doens't really matter for alphas I guess ยฏ\_(ใ)_/ยฏ). To end the bracelet, I just tie the strings together, on the back of the bracelet, add some fabric glue (I recommend using fabric glue rather than nail polish/any other glue, as fabric glue dries soft, and does not cause any rough edges/itchiness). Thus, for a 12 string bracelet, I use a 3-hole clasp, for a 16 string bracelet, I use a 4-hole clasp, etc. If the number of strings is not divisible by 4, I like to round up to the nearest number divisble by 4 for alpha patterns, and down for normals (in my experience alphas are wider than normals, but that might just be my particular knot tension). So, if I have an 18 string alpha, I would use a 5-hole clasp, but for an 18 string normal, I would use a 4-hole clasp.
- I mainly dye my own variegated strings, since I love the look of a rainbow gradient and it got really expensive buying pre-dyed strings. I just use KrazyKnotz's tutorial on dying your own strings, and hope for the best ๐ In the past I've used (and still sometimes do use) variegated strings by Pomegranadecolours, the.sage.handmade and ThreadWorx, and I've heard great things about KreationKaos, but never had the pleasure of using their strings myself.
- To get smooth colour changes when using variegated strings, I like to make bf or fb knots with the colour changing string, so I continue with the longest string/the one thats furthes behind vis-a-vis the colour changing. A lot of it also depends on the string you're using (strings with wider colour-changing intervals are easier to get seemless colour changes with, at least in my experience) ๐
Good job if you actually read all that. I hope at least parts of it made sense ๐๐
Happy knotting ya'll โ
