I like to use craft cord or DMC even though it can be a little pricey. I also use aunt lydia's crochet thread for base strings on alphas.

I have some DMC thread its real boujee LOL. it's really soft and the colors are gorgeous but they can be a little pricey. If you would like a cheaper option I recommend the brand Loops & Threads I think it's called I bought a huge 120 pack from Walmart for only $12 Canadian Dollars its definitely worth it Ive had no problems with the string. (:
