Yeah, I feel like authors can rarely pull off adding onto a story that people already love, without making the highly devoted fans upset.

I think some people can, like in all honesty, for Harry potter there's so many things she could write about that would be so different from the books now that I don't think it would affect the already written stories. But for instance mortal instruments I started before the third book was out and it was only supposed to be a trilogy at that time, now it's like six books and I've still only read three of them lol
