@Paws14 Ah, but then again, smiling or even acknowledging others might have a negative impact on our performance, especially if the relay is short enough to be more of a power and less of an endurance event. I know weightlifters who are sometimes considered rude by spectators when they approach the competition platform to perform a one repetition lift--nothing personal, folks: they've gotta be "in the zone," and would appreciate not being disturbed. 👍

@Paws14 No worries; wouldn't've expected anyone to have been keeping notes. As a member of the species, I'm suspecting when you hear boys acknowledge others as "handsome," they're being diplomatic. Oftentimes, there's an edge of "grrrrr, pretty boy--push comes to shove, I could kick his butt [grumble, grumble...]" behind it. |

@GiuseppeK Once when I had to swim a hard event, I started feeling stress and he comforted me. When I had a relay and I was the youngest one in the team, I said out loud that "I'm afraid that I will swim too slow" and he said "you're going to be fine". And that just made me happy to have him on my team.
