Hello! this is a thread to find other competitive swimmers!! I am on a swim team, but it is only in the summer. I swim year round but not on a team.

Talk about whatever. Favorite stroke, swim team tea, things you're working on, etc.

I'm excited to find other swimmers on here!!!

Competition days long over, but still swimming a minimum of thirty minutes most days. Retired right along Thailand's main river, and not too far from the origin, so it's about as clean as it gets (still won't be able to see your hand in front of your nose below the surface most of the year, though). For anyone who swims only in pools and thinks they're hot stuff, open water can humble us very quickly.

I was pretty much married to it during lockdown. While my neighbors as a rule are chill (if rural Thais were any more laidback, they'd be horizontal), it's not as though anyone was going to swim out mid-river to scold me into going home. I'd taught myself how to butterfly during that time, since no one ever formally taught me how--the internet is a marvelous thing.

Mostly for the sake of mobility and mild "zone 2" exercise most of the time, but if I need to dread the impending session I'll put on an old pair of UDT "duck feet" fins and maintain that old sidestroke--it was a hard-won skill, and it takes a genuinely solid core to make it happen. Pretty boy influencer six packs on Instagram won't cut it.

It had been a solitary activity for the longest time until I rescued the pup in the avatar. Much to my surprise, on day one she jumped in right after her favorite hyoo-min and performed admirably. Wow, she's amphibious...!

I was on swim team for about two years and then I quit. I still love swimming but my coach always made us do butterfly for warm up and cool down. And dryland training was torture. We did these stupid frog jumps and all. It was fun but I guess I got too lazy.

@clean, yeah butterfly can be brutal and coaches can be, too. I swim year round with one of the coaches from an opposing swim team, but she is better than the coaches on my swim team. I've been swimming with her for about 6 or 7 years, and she still helps me and tailors the work-outs to help me improve. The coaches on my summer team just want to get stuff done. We are the biggest team, and we win every year due to size alone and not being particularly skilled. Meanwhile, the team that this coach coaches is a lot smaller but individually the swimmers are better. Oh wow i ranted lol

@BobTheCat_ yeah, there are a lot of great coaches, mine included, but I guess what I'm getting to is that I was waay too lazy. And honestly yeah I really do miss swim team but it's nice having lower expectations. On that note my time for every stroke, particularly freestyle (idk why) has went up by a lot lol

Heyyyy competive swimmer here! (I only swim in meters though, sc and lc) I’m a distance/middle distance freestyler and butterflier!!! I say my #1 stroke is butterfly so in some sets (usually 2-3 times a week) I end up doing 1km+. I have developed a love hate relationship with fly lol. 200m fly sc time is 2:53 but I could go faster, haven’t done in a while. 100m is 1:16, and we don’t talk about my 50… I can’t sprint. Freestyle 400m is 5:02 and 800m is 10:16. 1500m is 20:04.

@dritten527 That's really good! I envy your distance butterfly abilities, I've only ever swam terrible 50s (37.97 in Yards 😭 ) and as someone with terrible upper body strength that's impressive!! Also Free is one of my favorites, i'd like to work on my distance swimming for it.

Thanks @BobTheCat_! Personally I find that the more you push yourself (a pain cause it’s fly) the better your endurance gets, which is why I’ve improved so much! You got this!
