@imcoolasf I never would’ve gotten involved in the first place had I not misread @MidnightTH ‘s initial post- I thought they were saying that they were unsure how to feel because their grandparents didn’t support it, so I was just trying to provide another perspective on the topic 😭😭

Wow, this topic is definitely a controversial one. Just reading the last page makes me sad, since we’re supposed to be a community that DOESN’T fight over these types of topics. Also, I feel it’s kind of sad to see that even people who have negative opinions about this topic are commenting on it, especially since this is supposed to be a safe space. But also, I feel it’s kind of sad to see that people have such STRONG opinions about this. The LGBTQIA+++ community is just another group of people in the world, just like the Black community and others as well, yet we seem to be just focusing on the LGBTQIA+++ community in terms of debating and discussions. I know that Christians especially have different beliefs, and as a Christian myself, I agree that LGBTQIA+++ goes against what we learn, and we may disagree with it, but the way I think about it, it’s been something that has been around for a long time. It’s only now we start to have an awareness with it, and I find it to be a good thing, because we can’t just go ignoring or protesting against it just because it doesn’t coincide with what YOU believe. I know for a fact that God wouldn’t approve of Christians hating on another community just because they have different ways of living and different gender identities and orientations than what is “normal”. It may be a really controversial topic, which is why I think that whilst it’s fine to bring it up, don’t ask for other people’s opinions on it, and definitely don’t start unnecessary debates or reply with negative comments just because you don’t agree with it.

@blackcat79 Don’t worry about what others think of what you have to say. Some of the people in this thread just don’t want to be open-minded, and that can also mean that some people express their disagreement in an overly negative way, and that can make us feel awful. I totally agree with your opinions, and even though others may not, I just want to know that you are not in the wrong here. Remember that for every person who has something bad to say about your opinions, there are so many more who support your opinions, and that are supportive, kind people who are open-minded enough to respect your opinions. If you need to talk, feel free to message me, and remember that this is a wonderful community where you will find so many kind people willing to listen to and respect what you have to say. Hope you feel better, and I hope you have a great day!

@blackcat79 Bringing another perspective is great it allowed me to really think on how I wanted to say things and that is good. @BiancaMG I do find it sad that the awareness of it has kinda popped up in the 3-4 years even though it’s been around since man sinned in Genesis. On the other hand they never had pride month or turned rainbows into pride instead of it being a reminder that God would never flood the earth again! Although I agree that this should be topic where you put your opinion, it has brought me more understanding of where we are in society.

@MidnightTH I get what you’re saying, and I respect that. Being a Christian myself, I can relate to your opinions, but I have different thoughts, especially since one of my best friends came out as gay, and I just believe that LGBTQIA+++ shouldn’t be considered “sinful” because you can’t change it if you’re gay, it’s just what you are, and people shouldn’t be considered “in the wrong”. But I just want to make it clear that your opinions are valid as well, and I’m not seeking to start a whole conversation debating about it. If you want to respectfully talk about what you think and explain in more detail, feel free to message me privately, and we can talk about it 😊

I think that people are entitled to think however they want to think—it becomes a problem when one’s thoughts manifest irl in the form of hateful actions and words. Whether something is a sin or not, I believe, is God’s purview; the Bible does have numerous verses about how God/Jesus is the final judge on all things, not humans. And imo, once someone starts staging protests against LGBTQ+, they’ve basically taken on the role of judge upon themselves.

If anything, there are also many verses about how the Bible is a mirror (or should be used like one); which, imo, implies it is more for self reflection and improvement than to be used as a weapon to cut others down or judge them.

And there’s also Matt 7:3–5, which, I think, beautifully depicts the idea of how it’s easier to spot how someone else is ‘wrong’ and/or berate them for their ‘sins’/mistakes than it is to realise/see the (possibly larger) ‘sins’ one is committing. In the context of this thread’s discussion, I’d say it’s a fair parable for people who spend time and effort focusing on the ‘one thing’ that is ‘wrong’ about someone else, than fixing the many things in themselves that could do with improvement.

@TLDR have beliefs, have convictions, have them shape who you are into a BETTER person others would be drawn to. That’s way better than waving around half-understood rules and regulations of one’s religion to ostracise others or spread hate and discrimination.

So yeah, if you’re a Christian who believes LGBTQ+ lifestyles are wrong; believe they are wrong for YOURSELF and live accordingly. You do you, and that is fine. Just don’t forcing others to reach that same conclusion as you and/or removing their chance to come to their own informed conclusion.
