big fan of being a Christian, also a mega lesbian with exceptions (it makes more sense than pan atm). as jason sudeikis put it on SNL so wonderfully, "God doesn't hate gay people, God doesn't hate anyone. That's His whole thing!" i've been blackmailed before for being queer in Christian spaces and i'm not going to give up either one of those things, not that i even could. lots of the antihomosexuality stuff in the Bible is taken out of context-

oh it already submitted oh well i will continue anyways in leviticus it's bc people had to multiply and it the new testament it's in letters bc people were cheating on their spouses and doing creepy stuff. God loves love and He loves queer people all the same. i really hate that so many members of the lgbtq community have been burned by the church, that's the worst advertisement for Christianity ever. plus, homophobes have no room to be rude bc as Jesus said, let him who has committed no sin cast the first stone. Jesus loves everyone, gay people not excluded. God created love for great and wonderful purposes and we should not he

GAH I SUBMITTED TOO EARLY AGAIN anyways nobody should try to define love in one specific way that only includes a man and a woman, and nobody should say that a different type of love is bad. if it's patient, kind, protecting, trusting, hoping, persevering, etc, it's love and it's a good thing. homophobia is quite ridiculous and it hurts everyone involved anyways- that's fr not biblical

@swimmer1 mate the Bible says they should avoid having relations, and even that is taken out of context. for example, in leviticus it's for cleanliness and population laws, and we don't even follow levitical laws anymore. if you wanna follow leviticus, stop eating every piece of bread bc the wheat may be from a corner, and make sure you get rid of all your poly cotton blend fabrics bc those are also sinful. Jesus died so we wouldn't have to follow those laws to be saved. additionally, love is a pretty solid thing in the Bible, it goes over quite well. two men or women or anything in between can get married or date or crush on each other no problem- love is a good thing and we shouldn't judge who we love by their flesh (God reiterates constantly that love is a great thing (read my previous replies). i'd love to chat w you more abt this in messages if you want, only request is that we keep it civil lol

@kpn thanks for offering but I’m not gonna be able to message about it, because I won’t be able to keep it civil (with all due respect) I believe strongly in my convictions and don’t feel like “kindly arguing” about them when my opinion clearly won’t effect yours. I believe your wrong, but we can have different opinions and that’s ok. Thanks tho

@swimmer1 Hey I’ve just read your question, and I thought, as someone who has a lot of LGBTQIA friends (personally.

@swimmer1 Shoot pressed send too early, let me continue- as someone who has a lot of LGBTQIA friend (personally, I don’t identify with that although I am questioning if I’m Aroace), attraction isn’t really something you choose. You can choose whether or not you date someone, but to be able to love someone in a romantic way isn’t something you can force (trust me, I’ve tried). However, I’m not Christian, so I see how our views could be different.

@dragonzzz I’m not saying you can’t be attracted to someone, I’m just saying you do have self control

@swimmer1 Yeah, thats a good point, but some people would rather not be alone for the rest of their lives just to have self control (since being with someone you’re not attracted to would be… miserable), and I guess that’s why people act on their emotions. (Again, you have your beliefs and I have mine, not trying to start an argument, just wanted to share some of my views)

@kpn Hello there fellow lesbian, nice to see another individual from the LGBTQ+ community in this forum! I agree, God loves all his children, no matter their race, gender, sexuality, etc. Its so disheartening to see many of his followers in Christ go against this message and discriminate against people because of who they are or how they love. I know God would accept us with open arms, but according to "Christians" we don't belong in the church. I grew up in the church and was surrounded by hypocrisy and loneliness. I felt betrayed and invalidated by church leaders I thought I could trust and carried a lot of trauma and weight from the negative experiences I had faced. I never felt a strong spiritual connection with God like my fellow peers had. I watched as people grew closer to God and I drifted further apart from him. I saw the way followers of God treated people who were different from them, with a look of disgust and a level of superiority. I knew I didn't belong there and didn't agree with the principles they believed in. I felt my faith deconstructing and tested. I felt so alone because I hadn't seen people like me in Christian spaces welcomed with open arms. I see how LGBTQ+ individuals are treated by followers of God by being made fun of and shunned because of who we are and who we love. I keep asking myself if I will ever find the way to salvation and find a church that will accept me with open arms. It's scary to see how much control and say Christian leaders have over a person's life, telling themselves they need to be fixed to be seen as holy and fit in God's eyes when that clearly isn't the case. Exodus Internationals is a prime example, essentially a conversion camp where those who had homosexual thoughts and tendencies were sent to in order to stop feeling the way they did. This led to a number of LGBTQ youths trying to fix themselves and follow the traditrional path of heterosexuality. This resulted in a numerous amounts of unhappy marriages and divorces, and in the worse scenarios, suicide. Thankfully the foundation was closed in 2013 and was proven to not be effective after many of the leaders and individuals who attended the program publicly came out as gay. This program proves that many church leaders didn't care if a small amount of youth committed, as long as the majority of them came out "fixed" Most of this information came from a documentary on Netflix called Pray Away which is really amazing in my opinion! Like Hamilton says "love doesn't discriminate between the sinners and the saints". To all the members of the LGBTQ community who are trying to seek God, I see you and I'm here for you. You are doing amazing and don't let anyone tell you the opposite.

@dragonzzz I had questioned if I was ace for a while, first as an asexual then as demi and now back to asexual! Sexuality is fluid so don't feel rushed to label yourself! Sending lots of love from Cali! I 100% agree with you and attraction really isn't a choice. When I was younger, I've tried to "fix" myself and force myself to like the opposite gender but it makes me feel so broken and miserable inside. As someone who grew up in the church, I felt disgusted and repulsed by how I loved and was in denial for years. For all the Christians who tell us to change ourselves, don't you think we tried? Christians don't understand how much we struggle with self-loathing and wanting to fix ourselves, but it hurts even more when others tell you. I still have some bad days but am working on excepting myself. Its so inspirational to see older/elderly LGBTQ couples out there and it reminds me that we do deserve to live happy, fulfilled lives! I definitely could never imagine marrying a man and I would literally want to divorce so fast.

@slin Yes exactly, being LGBTQ isn’t a choice, and nobody should need to subject themselves to being miserable because of the way they are. It makes me so happy to see welcoming LGBTQ communities, so more and more people can feel accepted the way they are (it’s quite helpful for me, at the very least, to be able to define the way I feel). Wishing you all the best!

dear mercy yes. it hurts my heart so, so much to see members of the LGBTQ community turn away from God just because of the way other Christians act. The biggest rule in Christianity after love God is love one another. They give us one rule, and everyone breaks it? Dumb. I wish homophobes focused on that rule instead of their interpretation of dating rules tbh

As a Christian who isn’t lgbtq, yet grew up in an extremely nonjudgmental household, I still firmly believe that we should love everyone no matter what (a lot of Christian’s skip out on this just to hate on lgbtq). They’re still PEOPLE and should be treated equally, and with love like how Jesus calls us to. It’s not up to us to judge people, that’s between them and their relationship (if they believe in) with God. I’m not quite the most educated on the parts of the Bible that do or don’t agree with lgbtq, but I am trying my best to be educated on both sides, because like I said, in the end I think that everyone should be loved and it’s not our place to judge. I don’t think that God hates anyone, as I believe that He is a loving God. This is just what I believe in, no hate please 😭 this is a sensitive topic

@just_mere Thank you for treating us with respect and dignity even if you don't believe or identify with the same thing as those from the LGBTQ+ community. It's really inspiring to read your reply and this gives me hope that there are other caring human beings in the Christian community. I have had a lot of negative experiences regaurding christians and have some personal trauma which makes me rethink Christianity as a whole but I still want to eventually form a strong bond with God and find salvation. I know that he saves and doesn't judge us for who we are. Thanks again for your reply!
