Mom had buried two husbands, and I was never fully accepted as one of the other siblings (getting saddled with a different family name didn't ameliorate matters any). So none of the perks of belonging, yet naturally it never stopped teachers and other various authority figures from invoking the names of my rock star predecessors to put me in my place ("I have difficulty believing YOU'RE really the brother of/*I* expected more from the brother of _____"). |
