Tips for designing normal patterns?

Hello!So I mostly design alpha patterns and I'm not very good at designing normals. Does anyone who designs a lot of normals have any tips? Thanks! |

try drawing it out on paper first. Grid paper works especially well because you can use it for alphas or normals if you rotate it 45 degrees. I normally draw the pattern outline i want, color it in with colored pencil or marker, and then draw the knots on top with pencil to figure out how it would work. Then i just put it in the generator and mess around with it until it looks right.
