Sideways alphas?

Ive noticed that some of the alpha patterns have something right side up, but it the pattern its sideways. And that's all well and good, but when I look at the pictures, its right side up like the original image, and not like the actual pattern. What does this mean/how do they do this?

The generator picks the least amount of base strings possible for the knotting instructions. You can tie each alpha either based on what the knotting instructions tell you, or you can knot it the other way around and follow the grid.
