problem with making alpha from image

i want to make an alpha pattern of my dog by importing a picture of him but it says the picture is too small no matter what i do. how do i make it smaller?? thanks in advance!

yes but no matter how much I crop it it still says it's too big

You could open the photo in an image editing software on your computer and make the size smaller.

You could also do something where you know the image will loose size as a side effect like taking a screenshot of it.
