Whenever I do the string placement(s) and fill in the knot part it always adds a lo more a color, so if I put in abc and after I fill i the knot section, it will go to abcaaaaaaaaaaa. How do you fix this?

When you do the string placements and say you've got orange,yellow,blue and pink then Orange is a, yellow is b, blue is c and pink is d. So when you put them in the order you want you have to use an even number so let's say abacadcdbaadcb that's fourteen so now you have to divide 14 by 2 so that makes seven so when you go fill the knot section you have to have 7 knots for example f,b,f,f,b,b,f, and in the next row you have to have one knot less. But that is really the basic way so if you want to design a pattern like #16742 for instants I can't help you.sry
