Can someone explain how you make teardrop double triangle start alpha keychains when working with an odd number of strings? I’ve watched several tutorials but still can’t figure out how the knots are arranged. I understand the process when there are 20 strings (split into 4 groups of 5), but what happens if I have 17 or 18 strings? How should the sets be divided and the knots done in that case?
I've watched Kinsey's video and I've watched Masha's video too. But I couldn't find anything useful in the comments too.

Someone please help me out with this. There are so many beautiful patterns that I want to make but this string issue has become a big hurdle. 🙁

If you have an odd number (or a number that cannot be divided by 4), you need to divide it unevenly.

For 18 strings, you would divide it into two groups of 9 and then divide these groups into groups of 4 and 5 like this 5-4-4-5 or 4-5-5-4.

For 17 you already need to start out with 2 odd groups. You could do

8-9
4-4 4-5

The more strings the pattern has the less noticeable it will be that it isn't totally even. If you have less strings, I would go with a loop and a single triangle start or a loop and two half-triangle starts.

So do I just not mind that there are uneven strings on both sides after dividing it into 4 sections?

How will I knot the extra thread?

I tried doing this once and it looks like I cut the first column and started knotting from the 2nd column. It looks like the keychain has shifted one knot to the right.
