MashaKnits has a wonderful tutorial for the teardrop loop on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPcpD-i2D0U), but I'm sure there are many otehr creators too! I like to use 36" strings, however halokiwi made a fantastic tutorial on how to claculate the exact length of string needed for your pattern of choise titled 'How to calculate string length in a normal pattern'
