Hi! I’ve been doing bracelets consistently for a month and a half now. I’ve been have the trouble with 2 strings that I want to tie together (either a forward or a backwards knot) being far apart. I will pull it tight on my first loop, but it loosens up when I go to put in the second loop.

This hasn’t been a big issue until recently. I’m working on pattern #986. If you are not familiar, it has an x shape in it made up of a chevron, then an upside down chevron/v shape with a few more upside down chevron shapes beneath it. I’ll be able to make that initial x pattern fine, but when it comes to the upside down v shapes beneath it, the strings to tie the top knot of all 3 upside down vs I have to make are far apart. As I work through the pattern repeat, this whole area buckles and pops up if that makes sense. I’ve tried making my knots just overall looser, but that hasn’t helped because strings are still far apart and I have to tie tight to get them together.

I hope this makes sense I would appreciate any help!!

Have you tried a different flavor of thread? Not all varieties are equal.

If you have access, I'm partial to thick, 100% cotton--the style I'm using (the variety in just about every photo I've submitted here thus far) reliably holds a half knot without too much hassle.
