I'm working on #206508 for the May 2026 Challenge. On shaped patters like this, how many knots do we actually tie for the vertical strips? For example, between rows 9 and 17, there are 5 fb knots on A-A, but when I tie 5, it doesn't seem like it gives me enough length to complete the rest of the pattern. Are we supposed to actually do 10, to fill in the rows the pattern can't show us (i.e., row 10, 12, etc.)?

It's up to you. With chain patterns like this one or for example the daisy chain #76616 you can make the chains as long as you like. You can do what the pattern tells you to do or you could make them longer (or shorter). Chains do indeed use up less space per knot but it's not exactly half the space. To get to a length that ten rows of knots would usually have, you need a little more than 5 knots, but you definitely do not need 10 knots to get to that length. How many knots exactly you would need depends on how tight you knot and how much you pull your knots up. |
