make neat alpha knots

Iโve been learning to make alphas but my knots always look long instead of neat squares, making the patterns look โstretchedโ, is there a way to prevent this? Do I have to tie them looser/tighter?

Tying knots looser in alphas is generally recommended.To make the knots more square, you can also try - using thicker base strings/doubling base strings - pushing the knots up with a ruler or something similar after each row knotted |
