Use the same type of thread. The same brand and thickness is best. For your edge base strings when doing the flat edge technic, pull them straight down when you tighten the FB or BF knot. If you are new to alphas, only do ones that have 2-3 colors because that amount is the easiest to manage.

Use crotchet thread as your base strings. I use Aunt Lydia’s Crotchet thread fashion 3 and it works really well for me. Craft cord is also good for base strings, but not so good for knotting. From my experience, embroidery floss makes the best knots,

use a ruler to straighten out your rows, don't use the flat alpha color switch on the edges and use a safety pin to unknot your knots if needed

@2006_Mandy, how do I do the color switch on the last knot without using the flat alpha? (I only ever used that technique)

@207055 so without the flat alpha color switch you just put away the old leading string behind the bracelet and begin knotting with the new one there is no putting the old string through the new string this is why it is bumpy without the color switch using the flat alpha technique because the leading strings are connected. Alex innovation shows that is her alpha tutorial if you want to see it visually
