How do I read an alpha pattern?

Okay, so I know that it goes in straight lines across and it only has backward and forward knots. How do I do it straight? I've never made one, but I made an alpha pattern of my name that i would like to try!! Thanks for your help

Okay so u have your base strings and your background color strings. And just use your background string and only use that string to make rows unless you need to use a background string for a design on the pattern. It should automatically go straight because your not working in pairs or sections like in a normal pattern...if that makes any sense...there is a tutorial that explains it better if this didn't work 😛
