I don’t look at the size number I just look at the string itself when I go to buy it and I’ve never had a problem. Most brands have different sizes of crochet thread and one size might be larger than for another brand of crochet thread

I use Aunt Lydia's crochet thread. Fashion 3 (size 3). It works perfect for base strings in alphas!!!

@2006_Mandy suggested that I get crochet yarn for backgrounds for tapestries, can I use crochet thread or is yarn better

@Elise64 yes I do both! I am working on a large wallhanging/tapestry and my base strings are crochet thread and my main colour is crochet thread but my other threads I’m using is embroidery thread

Size 10 crochet is considered crochet thread.. this is my go to threads. you can mix them with embordery floss, just put the floss next to the thread and spilt to the same size. This is not going to exact though as they have differnt textures but it can be done. May I suggest the Artiste Crochet Cotton Thread found at hobby lobby, comes in so many colors and works well with the red heart. |

Size 5 crochet thread is the closest I can get to embroidery floss’ thickness 🙂
