Changing colors or knots in existing patterns

Is there a way to change the color of a single string in a pattern without changing all of the strings of that pattern? Also is there a way to change the knot within the pattern? I found a pattern that I like, but wanted to make one part of it more gradient than a solid stripe of one solid color

You cannot change the color of a single string for alpha patterns. You can for normal patterns. Just go to the 'interactive normal' page, select a color, then click on the string. |

There is no way to change knots because you would essentially be changing the original pattern.
