how long should i cut my string for a normal pattern

lol i only used to do normal patterns but then i got into alphas and im trying a normal greek wave but i cant remember how long they should be so please help

usually an arms length should be long enough, a wingspan if you are going to fold it in half. i would probably add a little bit of length if you are adding ties though

that's okay! for me, I save all of my scraps that are at least 5 inches long, especially the longer ones. by the time you have enough, you'll be good at knotting and you can use the scraps to make a rug rag bracelet
