hi all! i'm sure this has been answered somewhere, but i can't find it in the forums or tutorials, so if anyone can direct me to the answer i would really appreciate it!!

my question is this....how would i use the grid from a "normal" [non-alpha] pattern to make a beaded bracelet?

i've been working with alpha patterns on a bead loom, and they're really easy to translate into beadwork. however, i'm not sure how i would translate a "normal" pattern into beadwork. would i just need to use a peyote stitch and start the pattern in the middle? does that make sense?? if i did that, i would have to make the bracelet in two parts and sew them together. is that really the easiest way to do this, or is there some other stitch i'm overlooking? 🤔

i am almost certainly overthinking this. lol.

I'm not sure if it's a technique people use, but I would do it like this:

If your normal pattern has 8 strings, you take 8 of the strings you usually use for beaded bracelets and somehow put them next to each other.

Odd rows:
(1 2) (3 4) (5 6) (7 8)

Even rows:
1 (2 3) (4 5) (6 7) 8

() represents a bead strung on two strings
The numbers represents the strings
Numbers without brackets have no beads in that row

i'm so sorry, i can't visualize what you're saying 😭 thank you for your response though!!! that's kind of why i was hoping for a tutorial or something because i have trouble thinking through how complicated 3d shapes fit together lmao

So the best I can think of explaining is that you should look at the brick stitch alpha technique which staggers knots to be like a normal pattern, you would use beads instead of knots though. Clairhair on here has a written tutorial in the tutorials section

the other option for beaded normal patterns would be peyote stitch

yeah with peyote i would have to start along a flat edge though, no? which would bisect the design, and i would have to make it in 2 halves. i'll look up the tutorial you mentioned, thank you!!

@2006_Mandy can you please link me to the tutorial, or tell me what it's called? searching "added by user clairhair" in the tutorials section comes up empty.

In a normal pattern with 8 strings, you would have 8 "base strings" onto which you string your beads. In any place where there would be a knot, you put a bead of that colour instead. You always put the bead onto two strings at once.

Odd rows (row 1, 3, 5, ...) :
(bead on string 1 and 2) (bead on string 3 and 4) (bead on string 5 and 6) (bead on string 7 and 8)

Even rows (row 2, 4, 6, ...) :
no bead on string 1 (bead on string 2 and 3) (bead on string 4 and 5) (bead on string 6 and 7) no bead on string 8
