How do you prefer storing your strings?

Hello! I am a total newbie to bracelet-making and weaving in general, so I wanted to see the different methods people use for storing their strings/floss! I have so far been leaving them the way I buy them (in loose paper packaging), but that hardly seems convenient. Does anyone have suggestions or tips for more convenient storage? I'm hoping for something that doesn't require additional purchases, I'm much happier doing some DIY projects to satisfy those needs, lol.

Absolutley with you on the DIY! There's a tutorial for making bobbins out of cereal boxes, you just cut out about 1 inch^2 squares of the garboard, make 2 small slits and you can wind up your threads on it. I bought a pack of 100 plastic bobbins on Amazon though if you have a lot of threads and not a lot of patience and they're very durable so I do recommend that. I currently group colours together but chuck 'em all in a sanwich storage plastic baggie, but people use snackle box trays with little dividers, which are much neater storage wise and probably easier + quicker to get at the colours you want, but I prefer how portable my method is! Some people allow their threads to glomerate in a massive heap lol which you know, the threads are often quite loose so it's easy to pull out the ones you wish to, but I'd recommend just avoiding that altogether as you begin your collection. So yeah, I think these are the main ways!

@Emmaloves I also thought about buying plastic bobbins but I couldn't be sure they're a worthwhile investment since I'm just starting and don't know if this hobby will stick in the long run (though i have a feeling it will!!). I did end up finding a similar tutorial online after posting this and making some cardboard bobbins, and although it's a painstaking process (both making the bobbins and winding them), I found it worthwhile so far rather than having all these loose thread constantly get knotted! Through this process I have also found out I have a lot more thread than I thought, lol. For storing the bobbins I've been going similarly to your method with plastic baggies but I might invest in one of those containers just for the sake of orderliness. Time will show on that one, I suppose.

Yeah, I was hesitant too about buying bobbins, but I got them for less than £5, so it is worth it! And perhaps a bobbin winder, I spent about 3-5 days winding 120 (-ish) threads by hand and it took so long 😭 I was glad to have done it, but I think I might buy a bobbin winder if I have to do it again. I can imagine it's a worthwhile investment because you only have to buy it once and use for years but I have no idea how durable they are, so if anyone else knows or uses one and has thoughts, please reply lol
