base strings showing when making alpha bracelets?

Hello,I've been making normal type bracelets for a few years and i'm only just getting in to making alphas. I just finished my fourth alpha bracelet and I have a problem. In some places, you can see the white base strings just a little bit, like they aren't covered by the primary strings. Is there a way to make sure this doesn't happen? Just pull them tighter? I wouldn't pull the knots tighter. Instead, I would make sure to keep the tension on the base string when tying a knot, and after finishing reach row I would use a ruler to push the knots up.
