Tips for making even sized looser knots?

After tying some normal bracelets I'm trying my hand at an alpha. The straight edges technique I get, and color switching is going okay, but despite doubling up the base strings, using 2 as a single string, my pattern is still coming out very stretched. Looking at tips here I'll have to tie looser knots, but I find tying tighter ones helps me keep them at an even size and in the right spot. Do any of you have tips on how to keep your knots looser but consistent? I know it's going to be at least partially 'finicking around until the muscle memory sticks', but I'd love any tips to get an at least reasonable result in the mean time. Also do you all have tips for placing the start of a knot correctly after a color switch? When I've switched out a color and need to get it back in halfway down the same row, I find it very tricky to place the knot correctly without accidentally pulling the bracelet into weird shapes. I'd love to hear from all you more experienced alpha makers! |

Personally i dont tie my knots looser when making alphas (my knot tension is also pretty tight), so instead, when im finihsed making the pattern I cut the dragging strings on the back side and then stretch oit the sides, it makes the pattern look less stretched even if your knot tension is tight. That plus doubling up your base strings will hopefully help you, good luck!!

The good thing about looser knots is that they can be more easily manipulated, i usually use a ruler or anything hard with a straight edge to push up on the knots at the end of a row. This helps keep them even as well as making the pattern look less elongated.

I actually tend to tie my knots really tight, but what helps with stretching for me is putting the one color string THROUGH the knots of another color (kind of like clean back alphas), that way I can pull it and get the knots of one color close to the knots of the other. Sorry, this might be kinda confusing.
