patterns with missing knots

so ive noticed in some patterns they have parts where there's no knot in an area and the string just goes straight down, what do you do when that happens? i saw something recommend the videos in #76616 and based on those it looks like when there's a row with missing knots you tie the knots that are present over multiple strings instead of just one, but how do you know which strings to tie them over based on the pattern? and do you even always tie them over multiple strings?also uh wasnt sure whether to put this in newbies or bracelet tying so hope i chose the right one- |

It depends on the pattern and sometimes there are multiple options. Basically there are two options - leave loose strings as they are - hide the loose strings in knots There is often more then one possible way how to hide the loose strings. With experience you'll know what works best. Do you have a specific pattern you want to tie? |

That pattern is a chain bracelet. In chain bracelets you most often tie one knot over multiple strings, as you said, make the specific amount of knots and then spread out the strings again and make another iteration of the pattern. I would split them down the middle so that each side gets the same amount of strings and that the bracelet would look even.

not sure if i should keep this in this forum but uh i tried following a pattern and doing the leave loose strings as they option to see what would happen and it didnt look right, i think whnen i tied the knots they went up the string to the empty part that was supposed to have no knot and kind of end up on the wrong row, so uh how do i avoid doing that?

It's a bit tricky to leave loose strings, but basically you need to place the first half of the knot where the knot is supposed to be. Don't pull it up all the way. Only make the second half of the knot if you are happy with the position of the first half.
