I've been trying to make keychains and some have an uneven number of base strings. I understand that you can add an extra base string by attaching another string just like your other strings and then have one half of it become the base string and another become the leading string, but what if you want your first row to be different colour to the base strings? What happens to the other half of the string?

For example, if I wanted to make #203099 (15x26) and I attached 7 white strings to get 14 base strings and then additional string to get 16, what would I do with the 16th string which I don't want to use because I want to make the first row blue? Do I keep the 16th string attached to the bobbin and just use it in colour change later to incorporate it?

I appreciate any insight! Thank you

I would add a 16th string and use 2 strings as a base string instead of one. Hope this helps (:

You could also attach 14 strings and then attach your first leading string so that one end is as long as the other base strings. You can use the end of the leading string as your 15th base string. This way you also don't struggle how to attach the first leading string.
