possibly a really stupid question sorry lol i'm a beginner !!in the tutorial i used + every pattern i see on here, number of strings is number of knots per row +1. but yesterday i made my first keychain which was a fishbone thingy that was 10x22 knots. but i used 10 strings + a leading string seperately. is that what i'm supposed to do, is the leading string counted in number of strings? also according to the tutorial if you use fwd/backward knots or backward/forward knots for the edges depending on whatever edge you get smoother edges? but i did that for all of them and my edges ares still bumpy. slightly more bumpy on the right side but still neither are straighter. how do i make them neater? |

An alpha pattern with the dimensions 10x22 has 10 knots per row/10 base strings and is 22 rows long. The string count is given as 11 because one leading string is counted in addition to the base strings. There is one leading string per colour and you switch between the different leading strings to make knots of different colours. To do the straight edges technique, you need to replace the first and the last knot of each row with a fb or bf knot. Your pattern would be knotted like this -> bf,f,f,f,f,f,f,f,f,fb bf,b,b,b,b,b,b,b,b,fb <- and so on Sometimes people do a fb or bf knot at the end of a row and then immediately start with the second knot of the next row, but that's wrong. You always need to do two bf or fb knots. One to end the row and one to start the next row. |
