Just to give a bit of background, I’m Brazilian and I’ve always used crochet yarn to make my bracelets; although it’s been a while since I’ve done any, I’ve started looking at related content again

I’ve noticed that the most common thread people tend to use is this ‘embroidery floss’ – I’m not sure if I managed to buy the exact same thing, because sometimes words can get lost when translated; in my country (Brazil) we call it ‘fio de meada’

It’s a thread that comes ‘wound up’ and consists of six strands together; in a single pack, each strand is 8 metres long. So, at the risk of sounding like the biggest idiot in the world: can someone explain to me, as if I were a child, how you use this bloody string? Do I separate each of the strands and use them individually? Or do you use all six together as a single strand?

Most people use all 6 strands. I've seen rare people use less but it's really not common.
