When reading a pattern, how do I tell how long I need to cut my strings?

It depends on the pattern and how much each string is used to make knots. If all strings are used equally, 95cm per string works well for me in a normal pattern. I wrote a tutorial on now to calculate string length when they aren't used equally: https://www.braceletbook.com/tutorials/173_how-to-calculate-string-length-in-a-normal-pattern/

Can someone suggest me the length of string you use to make a keychain with teardrop loop? Like take pattern #134008 for example. I want to do a teardrop loop start, so that will take some length of string. and then there has to be enough string left for the actual design. So, apart from the actual design (any pattern) what is the length of extra string that you use? I hope I'm making sense 😭 😭

@sonukc2504In alphas the length of the basestrings needs to be the length of the finished item plus some extra for loops, ties etc. If you make a loop, you need double the length. If you've tied an alpha before, you can measure a certain amount of rows and use that to calculate how long another pattern will be. |
