String pull direction

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question but I’ve searched everywhere for an answer and no luck. What is the proper direction to pull up the string. I’m having a hard time getting a bracelet to look neat. I’m sure tension may be part of my problem. I have watched sooooooo many you tube videos, seen so many pull them different but I’m trying to figure out if I’m pulling them up wrong or just a tension issue. I e been at this for a few weeks and growing really discouraged and honestly sometimes want to just quit the thing 😩 TIA

Sorry. Hey there! Ok so how I pull the strings is kinda random tbh…. But it’s up to the person, my friend pulls the string up but I pull it at a 45 degree angle upwards. I know lots of people who pull the knots differently, I recommend doing #2 and really focus on how you are tying and pulling the knots, and try different methods while making the pattern. I personally pull my string up. But honestly it really just takes practice to get better.

I pull my string upwards, and for some reason it really helps with my knots

i pull up to the left for fowards knots, and up to the right for backwards knots
