I downloaded this app a little while back and just today tried using a pattern (my sides went all wavy 🙁). I haven’t been able to find how long to cut the strings in the patterns. Is that info not included or have I not looked in the right place? Also, why don’t the patterns show how to start and and finish? Are there patterns that do show it and if so, are there specific keywords to search for that show them? Beginner here, so I like as many details to be specified as possible. I feel like an automated “tour” of the app features would be helpful. TIA for responses! ❤️

Welcome to BraceletBook! How long the strings need to be isn’t included in the patterns, because it depends on how long you want it to be. Some people make longer things out of them such as shoe laces and guitar straps, so the string length really varies. For a bracelet, I usually just kind of eyeball the string to be around the length of my wingspan. Once every string is the length of my wingspan, I fold the string in half so that there is a loop at the top (if that makes sense), but basically it’s just so that you cut one string, and it ends up being two in the bracelet. Some people like to use a string calculator to determine the length their strings need to be, and I know for example @Arkengheis has a string calculator in their bio. There are multiple different ways you can start and end a pattern, but most people start them with a loop called a teardrop loop. If you open the tutorials tab in the app and search “Teardrop” a few tutorials will show up on how to do it. You can also search YouTube on how to do these. As for endings, some people like to braid the end of their strings, or do a type called twisted ties. Some patterns have videos that people have posted on them to show how they are made, and sometimes include the starts and ends as well.

Welcome to the community 🙂 How long you need to cut strings is not included, but a lot of people such as Halokiwi include a string length calculator in their bio (personally, I just use wingspan length, then fold it in half). Your sides may be wavy due to uneven knotting, and as you adjust, it will get easier to keep your edges straight. Especially in 1212 normals, edges tend to get wavy even for advanced knotters. If this continues to happen, or you’re knotting an alpha, I recommend lookin at a straight edge technique tutorial, under the tutorials tab). Starts and finishes vary based on your preferences, but a commonly used option is a teardrop loop (I believe there’s more info on that in the previous response so I’ll leave it to them 🙂). If you want a step by step on pretty much anything, the Tutorial tab on BB is a great place to check and you can search by keywords. Lmk if that helps, and feel free to DM me if you have any questions! 🙂

Hey there! Welcome to Bracelet Book! I know that the string length thing is kind of annoying…. But that’s because everyone has different size wrists and maybe they want it in an anklet and all sorts of other stuff. I personally do the same thing as @dragonzzz where I do my wingspans then fold it in half for normals. Your wavy edges are most likely uneven knotting tension but that gets better over time as you make more bracelets (ex. Right now your forward knots might be tighter than your backward knots). But as I said earlier, it’s best to just keep practicing and to not let that stop you. To start I normally use a teardrop loop. It’s basically a loop at the beginning of a bracelet but in my opinion it looks prettier lol. @Racoon has really good tutorials on YouTube! Her YT account is Masha Knots. That’s how I learned how to make a tear drop loop and it really helped. (Thanks @Racoon !) There’s no keywords to help with starts and ends I just watched videos and stuff to teach myself in a way. A way to “tour” the app is to honestly just click around, again there might be videos on YouTube on how to navigate BB. If you want, you can see pictures of the patterns I have made and check those out! I leave little reviews on my bracelets and I have done some beginner friendly ones you might wanna try sometime! I am very happy to say welcome to the community! (Feel free to DM me if you have any questions at all)
