As far as my knowledge, yes you can use perler beads for an alpha pattern as long as it’s the design you followed to make the beads. Lots of people make things other than knotted creations such as beading, crocheting, etc!

sometimes in challenges, the creator of a challenge specifies no Perler beads, or any that isnt knotted, as its hard to judge. If your posting a picture without a challenge, you should be good, just make sure if you're posting for a challenge, check the challenge info.
