Hello, I wanted to give the alphabet/two tone alpha a try (so far I only did alpha patterns in flat alpha technique), but since this technique uses base strings as knotting string I don't know how long I should cut them. I am afraid I will cut them too short. is there any way calculating this? I don't mind counting how many knots every base string does but how much string does a knot uses I have no idea. |

I would recommend tying a test swatch to figure out the amount of string used. Unfortunately I only know how to calculate it for normals.

For any alpha I usually make my base strings half a meter. If you cut them too long, you can save the leftover string for other projects

@goregirl in the two-tone alpha technique the base strings are used for knots too

It really depends on your taste. If you like long ties - make your base strings longer. I go for about 60 cm. It also depends on your pattern. If your pattern ends after 80 lines, you might want to make your base strings longer
