I use a tac. Easy to hold and you can just stick it in the wall once you’re done.

I have long nails so that is fairly helpful. I find if i don't knot as tight it's also easier to get knows out. But i have also heard of people using a safety pin to get knots out

Im like almost everyone else here, I use a safety pin. If it's an alpha, just hold down the base string that you're undoing the knot from and take the safety pin inside the knot and very gently wiggle it around to loosen the knot. If you do it too fast you could end up shredding your leading string which lemme tell you from much experience, is not fun! If I don't have a safety pin around, I use my fingernail and rather than pulling at the front of the knot, I gently pull the bottom of the knot from the back.

Safety pin, thumb tack, earring, really anything with a point. When undoing knots be gentle with the thread because you can weaken it or even snap it if you’re being too rough with undoing your knots!
