i think i’ve tried the flat alpha technique. all i do is forward backward and backward forward knots at the edges, but it always screws up my bracelet. am i even doing it right or do you have any tips? also when i say screw up my bracelet i mean that the base strings show through my forward backward knots and the bottom gets curved and it just looks messy.

The base strings might show on the sides, and for me that's pretty normal. Whenever I do an alpha keychain/ bracelet I have a metal ruler to make everything straight and that might help it not become so curvy, if you are taking about the bracelet curling up on the sides, it is because you pull tighter on the ends than in the middle of the bracelet, so you might want to try fixing your knotting tension (how hard/firm you pull the string)

Hope that helps! 🙂

When doing the straight edges technique make sure you make 2 bf or fb knots right after each other. You are replacing both the first and the last knot of a row which means that you need to do two and not just one knot.

I have a graphic were you can see this in my tutorial https://www.braceletbook.com/tutorials/101_the-straight-edges-technique/

What you're doing is the straight edges technique btw. It is explained in the same popular video as the flat alpha technique but is not identical. The straight edges technique is doing bf knots on the left edge and fb knots on the right edge while the flat alpha technique is the way you do colour switches.

Here's the video that explains both: https://youtu.be/_YVFAX9sacw
